Austria Now News – Vienna
The Blumengärten Hirschstetten in Vienna’s Donaustadt district are getting ready to welcome visitors for the holiday season, as the municipal parks department Wiener Stadtgärten opens its Christmas exhibition and Advent market from 12 November to 20 December, according to a press release from the City of Vienna.
Opening hours
The exhibition and market are open Thursday to Sunday from 10:00 to 20:00, as well as on Monday 7 December and Tuesday 8 December, the public holiday of the Immaculate Conception (Mariä Empfängnis), at the same times.
Flower exhibition for the 23rd time
The gardens are presenting their Christmas flower exhibition for the 23rd time under the motto Im Zauber der Weihnachtszeit, meaning “In the Magic of the Christmas Season”. In Greenhouse 1, visitors can see 15 carefully designed displays telling stories from the Christmas world, including a Christmas train, a polar scene and a winter forest, with lanterns and illuminated stars, nutcrackers and angels, and a festive table.
The exhibition features more than 900 poinsettias, known as Christmas stars, and more than 340 fir trees, alongside amaryllis and other plants.
New light trail and varied programme
New this year is a light trail running through the gardens, with illuminated comets, a reindeer sleigh, a tower of gifts and a lit bridge by the water lily pond. The programme also includes musical performances by the Kulturverein Donaustadt, a charity punch stand in support of the TierQuarTier animal shelter, and the 48er-Tandler second-hand shop.
Director of the municipal gardens Karl Hawliczek said the exhibition shows how much creativity and expertise goes into the work of the city’s gardeners, adding that the new light trail invites visitors to a special Christmas stroll.
