The ÖBB timetable change in mid-December brings numerous new services for commuters in Lower Austria and in cross-border traffic. The new timetable takes effect on 13 December within the Verkehrsverbund Ost-Region (VOR) transport network, according to the Austrian Broadcasting Corporation ORF.

Additional trains on the Pottendorfer Linie

Four additional pairs of trains are being added on the Pottendorfer Linie to ease congestion at peak times, including two services from Ebenfurth to Wien Hauptbahnhof at 6:38 and 16:43. On the REX6 line, there will be a train every half hour towards Vienna from Ebenfurth and Ebreichsdorf between 5:00 and 9:00 a.m.

Better connections with Czechia and Slovakia

On the Nordbahn, two additional services will depart from the Czech town of Břeclav, providing a train roughly every half hour in the afternoon. On the Nordwestbahn, a late service to Znaim is being added. To the Slovak capital Bratislava, there will be an hourly train from Vienna Hauptbahnhof from 5:00 a.m. until midnight.

New night services and construction work in 2027

At weekends, passengers can travel from Vienna to Gmünd until 23:28, while the late-night CJX5 departing Wien Westbahnhof at 1:48 will stop at Neulengbach Stadt. However, the Franz-Josefs-Bahn between Absdorf-Hippersdorf and Sigmundsherberg will be closed for around 4 months in spring 2027, with replacement buses and significantly longer journey times.
