Austria Now News – Linz
Anyone planning a wellness weekend in Upper Austria should compare prices carefully. A survey by the Upper Austria Chamber of Labour (AK) found that a stay for two people costs between around 500 and 1,100 euros, even though the hotels received the same rating, ORF Upper Austria reported.
How was the survey conducted?
The Chamber of Labour calculated the cost of a weekend in November for two people in the cheapest available double room including meals. The ratings were based on the Relax Guide Österreich 2027. Five hotels were closed for staff holidays during the requested period, while one hotel did not respond to the inquiry.
Ratings alone are not enough
The size of the gap is illustrated by two hotels that each received 12 points in the guide: at a hotel in St. Georgen im Attergau the weekend costs 1,100 euros, while a comparable stay at a hotel in Grein is available for just 498 euros – a difference of 602 euros.
According to the guide, average wellness hotels usually receive 11 to 12 points, meaning the rating reveals little about the price guests will actually pay.
What does the price include?
At all hotels surveyed, the price includes access to the wellness area, and most offer half board. However, six hotels offered breakfast only, and four hotels offered full board only.
The Chamber of Labour also advises checking cancellation terms carefully, as the deadline for free cancellation varies by hotel, from 90 days to two days before arrival.
