Austria Now News – Sport
The dismissal of coach Kosta Runjaic is now official: Italian club Udinese Calcio, where Austrian David Alaba plays, announced on Monday evening that it had relieved its Vienna-born coach of his duties after two years in charge, according to Austrian sports website LAOLA1.
Poor results
Udinese currently sit second from bottom in Serie A with just 5 points, having suffered 7 defeats in their last eight matches. Italian reports had already suggested on the morning of the same day that the coach’s departure was imminent, before the club officially confirmed the decision in the evening.
Assistants also leave
The decision also affects assistant coaches Przemyslaw Malecki and Alexander Trukan. The club has not yet announced a successor to Runjaic, who took over the team in 2024.
What does this mean for Alaba?
Austrian fans are following the situation at Udinese with interest because defender David Alaba is in the squad. He will now have to work with a new coach at a difficult time, as the club fights to stay in Italy’s top flight.
